Caribbean Chief Association:Amazon Warriors score their first season victory.
In front of a lively home crowd, Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Saint Lucia Kings by six wickets to win the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season for the first time.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and decided to field, but the Kings got off to a blistering start, scoring 77-0 in the powerplay before being stopped by spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Imran Tahir.Johnson Charles batted throughout the entire innings and scored a magnificent 87 runs in just 59 balls as the Kings reached 161/7.
Shimron Hetmyer and Heinrich Klaasen, who put together a 66-run partnership, guided the Guyana Amazon Warriors' chase despite losing early wickets.After that, Klaasen hit a stunning 61 from 46 deliveries to help the Amazon Warriors earn their first victory of the season with ten balls remaining.
Charles and Faf du Plessis combined to score 77-0 after six innings, the highest powerplay score of the season thus far, as the Saint Lucia Kings got off to a fantastic start.However, Shamsi and Tahir demonstrated their superiority by keeping the Kings from scoring by restricting runs and taking wickets.Tim David launched a late counterattack, but Keemo Paul stole the show with the bat in the final over, taking two wickets and allowing only four runs to the Kings, who finished the 20-over game on 161/7.
Chandrapaul Hemraj opened the Guyana Amazon Warriors' chase with five boundaries before getting run out in the fourth over and Shai Hope was caught out two balls later.However, Hetmyer and Klaasen collaborated to score runs and keep the Warriors within striking distance of their goal.Even though Hetmyer lost his wicket, Klaasen would bat all the way to the end, and with Keemo Paul behind him, he was able to get his team over the line with ten balls left.
With this victory, Amazon Warriors have won for the first time this season, while Saint Lucia Kings have lost twice in a row.
